Families of people serving sentences in the Bureau of Prisons are getting calls from “Jason Williams,” who claims to work for the BOP. He tells them that their family member is eligible for compassionate release and they need to provide a credit card number to pay for electronic monitoring.
This is a scam. I have already heard from 2 lawyers who received calls from their client’s families TODAY (April 9, 2024) inquiring whether Jason Williams’s amazing news was true. They must have been crushed to learn that it was a scam.
