I am happy to report that my client was found not guilty of rape of a child by force by a Middlesex County jury. This accusations were made by an adult who claims to have been sexually assaulted as a child. After hearing from prosecution and defense witnesses, the jury returned not guilty verdicts on all five indictments. I am delighted for my client and his family.
The presumption of guilt that child rape charges carry is high. This becomes apparent during jury selection, when many prospective jurors candidly admit that they do not believe that they can be fair on a case like this. I appreciate their candor because they absolutely should not sit on a jury for someone charged with sexual assault on a child. The jury in this case kept an open mind, paid close attention on what I am sure was an interesting trial for them, considered the testimony, and returned not guilty verdicts.
